An interesting novel about growth and life journey from a unique perspective, using literary device to personify Dok Saau, a horse (unicorn actually) with the ability to write and communicate in human language. Throughout the story, Dok Saau proves his intelligence and ambition to understand the distinctiveness of human beings, their cultures while staying true to his charming, witty nature and remaining loyal to his adopted owner, Cheng Gao. Although past experience sometimes disorients his present perception, his struggle, this aspect of Dok Saau has convincingly displayed the similarity between humans and animals, that we can understand each other if we strongly desire to bridge our differences and care for each other. It should be clear that even without personification as in the case of Dok Saau, animals can feel various emotions and do amazing things, and we, as fellows of just different species should strive to do the same for them, just as how Dok Saau does for us.
